University Pathways (Widening Participation)

Our University Pathways programme, also known as Widening Participation, aims to support TPAT Sixth Form year 12 students with gaining the experience of life as a university undergraduate, and provide practical support as participants begin their higher education application process. We have teamed up with three local Universities who each offer widening participation programmes. These feature input from leading academics and current undergraduate mentors, and look to challenge participants academically and enhance current studies.

Below you will find further information about the fantastic opportunities open to students and the programme format offered from each University.

On Track to Bath is a one-year programme which will develop your independent learning, academic research and employability skills, and will help you to make an informed choice about your future university course. You will spend time on campus and undertake your own research project with the support of some of our academic staff and current students.

We have close links with the University of Bristol and many year 12 and year 13 students participate in the Access to Bristol and Pathways to Health Science programmes every year. In 2019-20, 7 students from Lydiard Park Academy took part.

Students attend a series of sessions on Wednesday afternoons during the autumn or spring term. The sessions give an idea of what it is like to study at the University of Bristol, working with academics and current students who can offer advice and guidance about higher education and their subject area.

Taking part shows a commitment to further study that strengthens university applications. Students who successfully complete the programme are guaranteed a contextual offer/interview from Bristol, a top-ten UK University (QS World University Rankings 2020).
