Widening Participation (University Pathways)

Our Widening Participation, also known as University Pathways, aims to support TPAT Sixth Form Y12 students with gaining the experience of life as a university undergraduate, and provide practical support as participants begin their higher education application process. We have teamed up with three local Universities who each offer widening participation programmes. These feature input from leading academics and current undergraduate mentors, and look to challenge participants academically and enhance current studies.

Below you will find further information about the fantastic opportunities open to students and the programme format offered from each University.

Pathway to Bath is a free blended learning programme that gives students the chance to develop key skills for university study and beyond while working online alongside experienced staff and current students and the opportunity to attend a free 3-day summer residential visit to experience life as a student at Bath.

The programme is designed to fit around your busy A level (or equivalent) schedule and will require no more than one hour per week to complete. You can work through the sessions wherever and whenever suits you, and have the opportunity to gain an alternative offer to study at Bath if you successfully complete the programme.

The Reading Scholars programme aims to give Year 12 students a real taste of life as a university undergraduate, and provides practical support as participants begin their higher education application process. Featuring input from leading academics and current undergraduate mentors, the programme will challenge participants academically and enhance current studies.

The programme is run by the University of Reading. The 2022 programme is planned to consist of four on-campus events (three one day events in January, February and March, and a residential in July). This is dependent on national guidance at the time and so is subject to change - should we not be able to run on-campus events, we will run virtual alternatives.  Whether virtual or on-campus, activities include support from your student mentor, university-style subject-specific and study skills sessions, and working towards an academic project.
